Fax Machines Suffer a Mortal Blow  [ ? ]

A California Company Offers a New Fax Service to Make Life Easier for 1.5 Billion Fax Machine Owners and Users. By Moving Faxing to the Internet Age, People Are No Longer Tied to Their Fax Machines as They Can Have Faxes Delivered to Existing E-Mail Accounts at a Minimal Price.

CULVER CITY, Calif., Nov. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Digitcom Services, Inc. has begun offering Digitfax(SM), a fax service that makes most fax machines obsolete. Customers are assigned a private, 24-hour fax number that can receive multiple calls at the same time. When a customer receives a fax on this number, it is converted into an e-mail message and delivered to his e-mail address with the images intact, while not requiring the customer to have any special software loaded on their computer.

Digitfax is being offered to consumers through Internet Service Providers, direct response advertising, and local and long distance telephone companies. Retail pricing will vary, but it is expected to average between $4.95 to $9.95 per month.

Digitfax has an advantage in both costs and benefits beyond the traditional fax machine. Perhaps the most obvious benefit is that the customer no longer needs to pay for a dedicated fax line from his local phone company. This saves at least $25 per month for a residential line and considerably more for a business line. Electricity, drum, toner replacement and paper costs are not necessary and the customer now has one less machine to maintain.

The cost benefits of Digitfax are only outweighed by its genuine practical benefits. As many as 4 faxes can be received simultaneously eliminating busy signals. Faxes can be retrieved from anywhere in the world from any computer connected to the Internet. Backup copies of the faxes can even be stored in Digitcom's system for 30 days for later reference and retrieval. These are considerable benefits for the traveler. For business, departments and employees can now have their own individual secure fax numbers. Using Digitfax, employees don't waste time waiting by the fax machine while other faxes are being transmitted.

Digitfax has the optional capability of notifying subscribers that a fax has arrived. This service is available for both numeric and word messaging pagers for a minimal cost.

The international applications for Digitfax are also very useful. For example, if a customer from Hong Kong needs to send a fax to the Philippines, the call will cost $4.15 per minute. However, if the same fax is sent to a U.S. phone number the call costs only $2.15 per minute -- almost half the price. The fax received at the U.S. number is then e-mailed to the customer's foreign e-mail address incurring no additional charges.

Founded in 1992, Digitcom Services, Inc. develops and markets advanced Internet-based systems and software solutions, including paging terminals, routers and solutions for both Internet Service Providers and wireless carriers. It sells products worldwide from its headquarters in Culver City, California and counts many of the largest paging carriers in the nation among its distinguished list of customers.
