For those who have been following the survey that I ran on the lifespan
of Macintosh computers, here are the final results. The survey was
available on the web, and was posted to several mail lists such as the
Evangelist. Keep in mind that this was an informal survey, and has
limited statistical validity.
Of the 2689 computers,
43.63% (1103) were 3 years old or less.
30.18% (763) were more than 3 years old, up to 5 years old.
12.90% (326) were more than 5 years old, up to 7 years old.
7.59% (192) were more than 7 years old, up to 10 years old.
5.70% (144) were more than 10 years old.
62.14% (1671) were PowerPC Macs.
37.67% (1013) were 68k Macs.
472 did not specify OS version.
Of the 2217 eligible responses,
2.12% (47) were running System 6.0x or earlier.
1.62% (36) were running System 7.0x.
5.68% (126) were running System 7.1x.
13.67% (303) were running System 7.5x.
10.24% (227) were running System 7.6x.
66.53% (1475) were running System 8.0x.

Of the 2688 eligible responses,
4.87% (131) had 4 Mb RAM or less.
